I would like to thank A.C.E. for organizing the 11th Annual Professional Development Symposium—Phoenix Rising and sponsoring my attendance. Participating in the conference proved to be a really enjoyable and beneficial experience.

This year’s symposium was fabulous! From the beautiful symposium sight at the Wild Horse Pass resort to the funniest motivational speaker, I thought that the symposium was a great turnout for all. As a presenter, I thought the teaching arena was nicely set up, making presenting easy to do for a large group. The workmanship of the ACE Board to put such a nice event together for the correctional educators of Arizona always amazes me.

First, ASPC-T is engaged in the opening phase of the formal Accreditation Project process. Anyone who has been through accreditation or re-accreditation knows how much work the project involves. Second, developing a rapport with AdvancEd and gaining a mutual understanding of what is required provides vital knowledge of expectations. Third, ASPC-T has, and maintains, the largest number special education students within ADC. Hence transition planning strategies planning are essential for both teachers and students. Finally, the Symposium, overall, was an outstanding professional development experience.

My experience at the ACE (Arizona Correctional Educators) Symposium was incredible for many reasons. First, by becoming part of the committee and becoming a regional representative, I am able to network with other secure care schools and agencies and learn how they are addressing matters such as The Common Core, GED, security procedures to ensure all students are afforded the opportunity to receive FAPE (Free and Appropriate Public Education) with minimal resources. I must admit, I am greatly impressed by my peers in secure care and how they make education priority one.
